You have probably already seen him — on billboards across Southern California, on television, and on the feeds where working contractors actually spend their time. Luis knows what the CSLB asks for in practice, not just what the handbook says, and he teaches it in English and Spanish.

Marketing for contractors
Most homeowners search on their phone, look at the map, and call one of the top three. We build the three things that put you there — a logo that makes you look established, a website that says what you do and where, and a Google Business Profile set up properly.

The process, start to finish
Four steps from your first phone call to your license number. Most applicants lose months guessing at this — here is the entire CSLB process laid out, so you always know exactly where you stand.
We look at your trade and experience, pick the right classification, and map out your timeline. No charge, no pressure.
Day 1We complete and submit your CSLB paperwork, verify your experience, and track it so nothing sits in a pile.
Week 1–2Law & Business plus your trade exam, taught by Luis Gonzalez. Live Q&A every Wednesday. Practice exams until it clicks.
Week 2–10Bond, workers' comp, LLC or corporation, and your contract templates. You walk out ready to bid real jobs.
Week 10–13CSLB requirements
Here is what the Contractors State License Board actually requires, in plain language. If any of it applies to you and you're not sure how to prove it, that's what the free consultation is for.
To apply for a California contractor license you must be at least 18, have a valid Social Security number or ITIN, and be able to document four years of journey-level experience in the classification you're applying for within the last ten years.
Education can substitute for part of that experience. An apprenticeship, a technical degree, or related coursework can offset up to three of the four years, leaving one year of practical experience to verify.
Every applicant takes two closed-book exams at a CSLB testing center: the Law & Business exam, which covers contracts, lien law, employment rules, and safety, and a trade exam specific to your classification. Our courses prepare you for both.
If you already hold a California license in another classification, you may be exempt from retaking Law & Business.
Fees change, so we confirm current amounts with you at consultation rather than quoting stale numbers here.
Realistically, most students are licensed in three to six months. The application review at the CSLB is the slowest part and largely out of your hands, which is exactly why a clean, correctly filed application matters so much. A rejected application can add two months for no reason other than paperwork.
Under California Business & Professions Code, a license is required for any project where labor and materials total $1,000 or more. Working unlicensed above that threshold exposes you to citation and, under B&P §7031, means a court can order you to return everything a customer paid you — even on work you completed properly.
Licensed contractors can pull permits, enforce their contracts, bid public works, and carry workers' comp legally.
